Joshua Sanes awarded honorary doctorate

Congratulations to Josh Sanes, who was awarded an honorary doctorate degree June 13, 2022 by The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Hebrew University President Asher Cohen conferred upon Prof. Sanes the degree of Doctor Philosophiae Honoris Causa, “in acknowledgement of his scientific leadership and cutting-edge contributions to the fields of molecular and cellular biology; for his groundbreaking research in understanding brain disorders; in recognition of the creation of the Brainbow mouse, which yields high-quality, vivid images of brain activity; and in appreciation of his longstanding relationship with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, particularly in establishing and contributing to the academic success of the Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences.”

Acknowledging the accolade, Sanes said, “Aside from the personal gratification of receiving this great honor, I’m pleased by the spotlight it shines on the importance of understanding how the brain works. Brain science is in a phase of incredible growth, beginning to find ways to treat currently incurable, devastating neurological and psychiatric disorders.”
