Center for Brain Science

High-Throughput EM

CBS is funding the development (Lichtman, Reid) of high-throughput electron microscopy methods to image serially sectioned brain tissue.

Imaging neural circuits at nanometer length scales leads inevitably to vast data sets. In fact, the entire Connectome Project is feasible only now because of the exponential increase in computing power and data storage over time. Nevertheless, managing, visualizing, and analyzing these data remain major challenges.
