Thinking about the components of motor skill

Here I will address  the still vexed issue of motor skill. What is it?  The framework will be that a skill is made up of at least 3 basic parts: 1. Retrieval of the correct action for a given  stimulus or context. 2. Accurate and fast execution of the retrieved action. 3. Retrieval of the action at short latency (caching or automatization). I will discuss several paradigms that we and others have introduced to characterize these components.
