Imaged on Zeiss Pascal microscope system using a 10x 0.45NA water objective, an AxioCam HRc camera and conventional epifluorescence optics (Texas Red filter cube). Montage of 9 x 8 images was acquired automatically using AxioVision software.
Coronal section is 80 microns thick. Image illustrates parvalbumin-immunoreactive cells (a subset of inhibitory neurons) in a postnatal day 25 mouse brain. Neurons are labeled here with primary rabbit antibody against parvalbumin and a secondary anti-rabbit antibody coupled to Alexa Fluor 568. We are interested in the expression pattern of these cells in response to sensory experience during early life. While parvalbumin circuits have been strongly implicated in triggering the onset of critical period plasticity in the developing visual system, this project seeks to address their role in primary auditory regions.
